Physiological Basis of the Selective Advantage of a Spirillum sp. in a Carbon-limited Environment

Abstract: A Spirillimz sp. and a Pseudotnonas sp. possessing crossing substrate saturation curves for L-lactate were isolated from fresh water by chemostat enrichment. Their K, and ,H,,,~~ values for L-lactate were: Spirillum sp., 23 /4M and 0.35 h-l, respectively; Pseudo~noiias sp., 91 / I M and 0.64 h-', respectively.
