In fact, most marine, freshwater and terrestrial snails have developed some Cd tolerance thanks to their MT system which, as a rule with some exemptions, accumulates and detoxifies the metal in the animals' midgut gland (Dallinger 1993 ; Bebianno and Langston 1998 ; García-Risco et al 2023 ; De Silva et al 2023 ).
