Physics searches at the LHC

David E. Morrissey,
Tilman Plehn,
Tim M. P. Tait

Abstract: With the LHC up and running, the focus of experimental and theoretical high energy physics will soon turn to an interpretation of LHC data in terms of the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking and the TeV scale. We present here a broad review of models for new TeV-scale physics and their LHC signatures. In addition, we discuss possible new physics signatures and describe how they can be linked to specific models of physics beyond the Standard Model. Finally, we illustrate how the LHC era could culminate in … Show more

“…In gauge-mediated SUSY breaking scenarios, the gravitino is often the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), and its phenomenology depends on what the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) is. While the lightest neutralino and the lighter stau are often the NLSP in minimal models of gauge mediation, gluinos can also be the NLSP, e.g., in split SUSY models and general gauge mediation models; see review papers [1,12] and references therein.…”

“…Theoretical scenarios beyond the Standard Model [SM] which will be tested at the LHC [1] often include a hidden sector. The standard sector and the hidden sector are coupled by interactions of gauge-invariant operators which open the gate for exploring structures in the hidden sector by observing phenomena in the visible standard sector.…”

“…Since the LHC started running at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV searches for new physics are a major effort, realized in a rapidly increasing number of publications [1]. Inclusive searches for supersymmetry at the LHC have started to constrain the allowed parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model [2], most notably in the part of the squark-gluino mass plane which can be described in terms of gravity mediation.…”
