Physics research and technology developments of electron string ion sources

Abstract: The most recent experimental information on electron string phenomenon, such as two step transition to electron string state, stability of e-strings in condition of electron energy recuperation, are described. The new technology developments of electron string ion sources (ESIS) include pulse injection of gaseous species in e-string and its efficient conversion to ion beams, slow ion extraction, ion-ion cooling of heavy ions with CH(4) coolant, and a progress in the construction of the new Joint Institute for … Show more

“…The purpose of this work is to develop algorithms for simulation of the heat conduction process inside the so-called pulse cryogenic cell [1,2]. Such simulations are important for designing the cell that implements "the thermal gates" of a portion injection of working gases into the ionization chamber of a multiply charged ion source [3].…”

“…ESIS KRION-6T is currently designed at LHEP JINR in order to produce heavy ions [3]. KRION-6T operation is based on step-by-step ionization of the ions by hitting with electrons of an electron string and the main task is to produce the Au 32+ ions for the NICA/MPD project.…”
