Physicochemical evolution and evaluation of groundwater quality in Mougheul area (Southwest of Algeria)

Abstract: In arid areas, the pressure on water resources and in particular on groundwater resources is on the rise, mainly due to increasing demand and the deterioration of water quality. In this context, the present work aims to follow the annual evolution, between 2009 and 2019 of the physicochemical parameters, and to evaluate the quality of groundwater of the region of Mougheul, by determining the data of pH, TDS, conductivity and the concentrations of major ions ( Ca+2, Mg+2, Na+, K+, Cl−, HCO3−, SO4−2, NO3−) of 07… Show more

“…Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend the impact of competing anions on the RFDC properties for P removal and recovery. Typically, Cl – ions are among the most prevalent anions, with different concentrations in various wastewater streams . Conversely, the concentration of P typically hovers around 1 mM in many industrial wastewater sources .…”

“…Typically, Cl − ions are among the most prevalent anions, with different concentrations in various wastewater streams. 26 Conversely, the concentration of P typically hovers around 1 mM in many industrial wastewater sources. 1 We investigated the effect of varying Cl − concentrations on the P removal properties by RFDC employing the gel type resin.…”

“…This water can be used for salt-tolerant crops under favourable drainage conditions (Tiwari et al 2017). As can be seen in the Wilcox diagram (Figure 7) (Sharma et al 2017;Adimalla et al 2018;Mebarki et al 2021), the groundwater samples can been classified into two categories, viz., 88% belong to 'Good to Permissible', and 12% belong to 'Excellent to Good'.…”

“…Groundwater is essential for protecting the ecological environment of arid and semi-arid regions [KENDOUCI et al 2019;KHELFAOUI et al 2020]. The good quality water for drinking purposes is important for future planning and management [MEBARKI et al 2021]. Algerian Sahara occupied by a large population distributed over vast urban agglomerations and oases.…”
