“…Table 4 shows that the 10-HDA content in samples of commercial and lyophilized RJ was similar to that obtained by Garcia-Almoedo and others 12,13 , but is very low compared with the Mexican regulation 14,15 . The limit of detection found for the determination of 10-HDA by EC is 12, 618 ppm, and the limit of quantification is 42.06 ppm.…”

“…Additionally, several complementing physical and chemical markers have been proposed to assess its freshness and quality, but these methods suffer from many limitations, and are materials and time consuming, since a number of prior steps are often required to extract the species of interest from the sample matrix and increase potentially interfering compounds 10,11 . Considering the fact that until now in Chile no regulation exists for RJ quality control, we started studying the chemical composition of Chilean samples of RJ by analyzing their moisture, ash, lipids, and acidity and we concluded that the composition of Chilean RJ shows some differences with respect to other values described in the literature 12,13 . The aim of this study was to develop a rapid and stable routine method for the determination of 10 -HDA in the only two commercial RJ ' s sold in Chile and obtain a quality control of the profile of this RJ.…”

“…The 10-HDA determination was similar to that used by GarciaAmoedo and Almeida-Muradian 11 , Koshio and Almeida-Muradian 12 and Pamplona et al 13 . High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used under the following conditions: an isocratic system with a Shimadzu ® LC9A pump, an auto sampler and a diode array detector (Shimadzu ® SPD-MXA).…”

“…reviews: Ramadan and Al-Ghamdi 2012). The content of moisture (Sabatini et al 2009), carbohydrates (Asencot and Lensky 1988;Lercker et al 1992), proteins (Simúth 2001;Boselli et al 2003;GarciaAmoedo and Almeida-Muradian 2007), lipids (Lercker et al 1992;Noda et al 2005), 10-HDA (Bloodworth et al 1994;Koshio and de AlmeidaMuradian 2003;Pamplona et al 2004) and minerals (Benfenati et al 1986;Stocker et al 2005;Garcia-Amoedo and Almeida-Muradian 2007) has been thoroughly documented. However, it is important to note that almost all of these studies were focused on the quality of commercial RJ (i.e., the food of 4-day-old queen larvae).…”
