Kaidaryadi Kashayam is an herbal preparation which is commonly used in Udaragata Vikaras like Pravahika, Agnimandhya and Grahani etc. Even though this Yoga is used most frequently used and having only four easily available ingredients very less companies are preparing the Kashaya. The excellent results are seen in the Grahani, Pravahika etc diseases conditions. The palatability is a challenge for taking the Kashya and also transportation is a challenge. In the present study here attempt has been made to prepare Ghanavati of Kaidaryadi Kashaya of Chikitsa Manjari text book by Rasakriya method. The prepared Vati was subjected for physciochemical and phytochemical analysis, HPTLC, microbial load as per the WHO guidelines. Efforts were made to set the analytical standards for the Kaidaryadi Ghanavati which were not reported till date. Loss on drying - 10.084%, Ash value -13.366%, Acid insoluble ash - 1.287%, Water soluble extractive - 79.793%, Alcohol soluble extractive -4.064%, Hardness - 10kg/cm, Friability - 0.004%, Disintegration - 20min, pH - 5.23, in HPTLC of Kaidaryadi Ghanavati maximum four spots at short UV and maximum seven spots long UV. Microorganisms in the formulation were found to be 24CFU/ml.

Vatavidhvamsana rasa (VVR) is a well-known herbo-mineral formulation explained in classical ayurvedic text Yogaratnakara and also quoted in Ayurveda Formulary of India (AFI) and is mainly indicated for Vatika disorders. There is a lack of data regarding the standardization of pharmaceutical process and analytical profile of VVR. Aim: To prepare vatavidhvamsana rasa and analyze it using various physicochemical parameters. Materials and methods: Total three batches of Vatavidhvamsana Rasa was prepared as per the classical method explained in the reference to evaluate the standard procedure. During the pharmaceutical process, all ingredients were mixed thoroughly and triturated thirty times with ten bhavana drugs for an average of 90 hours. The pharmaceutical and analytical parameters were completed and the data was recorded. Results: Three batches of Vatavidhvamsana Rasa after preparation showed an average increase of 12.93% yield. Pharmacognostical evaluation showed the presence of the ingredients used. Average values of physicochemical parameters of Vatavidhvamsana Rasa were as follows: loss on drying 6.19, pH 7, total ash value 36.46, acid insoluble ash 7.16, water soluble extractive value 17.24, alcohol soluble extractive value 7.13. HPTLC of Vatavidhvamsana Rasa revealed a total of 11 and 12 bands at 254 nm and 366 nm. Conclusion: Data generated from pharmaceutical, analytical studies and HPTLC can be used to develop a preliminary standard profile for the formulation Vatavidhvamsana Rasa.

ABSTRACT:With the advent of nanotechnology, it has become important to realize the immense potential of ayurvedic bhasma which had been there for centuries. The study of ayurvedic bhasma as nanomedicine is an important interdisciplinary research area in need of contributions from material science, chemistry, pharmacology, etc. Such a research will definitely help in the characterization and standardization of these bhasmas which is a very complex problem. However, this system is not getting recognition in other parts of the world. Among the various reasons listed for lack of popularity of ayurveda, is non-availability of 'standards' for ayurvedic medicine particularly when prepared on large scale in modern pharmaceutical plants, matching the convenience palatability of modern dosage forms. Many times, it is reported that the preparation, particularly those mineral based are found to contain toxic substances exceeding permissible limits. There has been a lot of hue and cry regarding the safety and efficacy of the bhasmas, especially after publication of certain reports in print media. Further, the commercial pharmacies not adhering to the traditional methods adopt short cut methods and use of adulterated / substandard material augmented the apprehensions in public over their utility. It is therefore needed to explore the same with a multidisciplinary approach, the present study is contemplated. The present review is aimed at finding out the ways and means to standardize the manufacturing processes and develop standardization methods after they have been formed.
