PHYSICO: An UNIX based Standalone Procedure for Computation of Individual and Group Properties of Protein Sequences

Abstract: In the genomic and proteomic era, efficient and automated analyses of sequence properties of protein have become an important task in bioinformatics. There are general public licensed (GPL) software tools to perform a part of the job. However, computations of mean properties of large number of orthologous sequences are not possible from the above mentioned GPL sets. Further, there is no GPL software or server which can calculate window dependent sequence properties for a large number of sequences in a single r… Show more

“…Program is written in AWK programming language which can preferably run in any C shell UNIX prompt including CYGWIN and also be made work in B shell LINUX and WINDOWS environment. Presently we are actively engaged in developing web interface to integrate SBION2 and other related software tools of our laboratory such as SBION [ 1 ] and PHYSICO [ 4 ] such that their availability could reach to academic users within an unique web service.…”

“…Further, sharing of same websoftware by worldwide users might cause lower processivity. While PHYSICO [ 10 ], in contrast performs batch analyses for PWS properties, their ranges are still less exhaustive. Now the later to serve better, an upgraded version seems urgent such that users i] could relish the flexibility in setting relevant inputparameters, ii] could procure additional outputs on windowdependent profiles for RAW-FASTA, pI-profiles and items in similar kind of output as PHYSICO that contains novel reports on substitution-based positional as well as BLOCK specific diversity and conservation, iii] can access detailed documentation on principle and methodologies used in the program.…”
