Abstract:In this report, we begin by investigating the different methods for calculating the seasonal bearing capacity of soils, including highly organic ones such as peat. First, we present the generalized plate theories, including failure criteria, for linear elastic, plastic, and modified plastic. In all instances, the plate is assumed to be uniform, circular, and of infinite extent. The physical properties that determine soil strength change with temperature, water content, and ice content. It is therefore importan… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
