Physical Mapping of Immune Genes in the Tammar Wallaby (Macropus eugenii)

Abstract: The tammar wallaby (Macropus eugenii) is a model marsupial that has recently had its genome sequenced to a depth of 2-fold coverage. Although this is a great resource for comparative genomic studies, information on gene location is essential if this resource is to be used to its full potential. In this study, tammar wallaby bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) containing key immune genes were isolated from the tammar wallaby BAC library. BACs containing T cell receptor (TCR) and immunoglobulin (Ig) genes we… Show more

“…Only one TRG locus exists in the opossum, comprising a single constant gene, arranged in a translocon organization with V and J regions adjacent to one another [67]. Both scaffolds reside on chromosome 3p [74] but it remains to be determined whether the two wallaby TRGC genes localize to the same locus, like in human and mouse, or to different loci, as in ruminants. TRMC is also expressed at comparable levels between the two thymuses [66].…”

“…S2a). Indeed, studies using FISH probes in Monodelphis domestica [31] and in wallaby [32] have localized the IGLλ at a subtelomeric region, which is associated with accelerated evolution in genome landscapes based on the Monodelphis domestica gene order, while IGH is situated at an interstitial region of chromosome 1 (Fig. 4a).…”
