Physical Layer Security of Hybrid Satellite-FSO Cooperative Systems

Abstract: In this paper, we study the physical layer secrecy performance of a hybrid satellite and free-space optical (FSO) cooperative system. The satellite links are assumed to follow the shadowed-Rician fading distribution, and the channel of the terrestrial link between the relay and destination is assumed to experience the gamma-gamma fading. For the FSO communications, the effects of different types of detection techniques (i.e., heterodyne detection and intensity modulation with direct detection) as well as the p… Show more

“…Very few works in the literature have investigated the secrecy level of HTS systems with optical feeder link. In particular, the authors in [30] dealt with the secrecy analysis of an HTS relay network, where the optical link is used at the terrestrial side as a last-mile link. Also, the wiretapper is considered only on the RF side.…”

“…Working on the similar directions, Gua et al investigate the average secrecy capacity and outage probability of satellite channels with multiuser opportunistic scheduling. Unlike the aforementioned works, the authors in Reference study the secrecy performance of a hybrid satellite and free‐space optics (FSO) cooperative systems, under shadowed‐Rician fading on satellite links and Gamma‐Gamma fading on FSO links.…”

“…Furthermore, in [11], the outage probability, average symbol error rate, channel capacity and intercept probability for a mixed RF/FSO system were analysed from RF security perspective. Similarly in [12], the PHY analysis is done for a hybrid satellite-FSO co-operative system where the satellite link is modelled by the shadowed Rician distribution and FSO link is assumed to be Gamma-Gamma fading distribution. Security analysis was further extended for downlink RF/FSO system i.e.…”
