Controlling the polymerization of polypyrrole (Ppy) in presence of Zr-based metal organic-framework (Zr-MOFs) using sodium dodecyl sulphonate (SDS) as a dopant, leads to the formation of a new class of thermoelectric materials based on conducting polymer and highly porous MOFs with enhanced properties for energy production applications. The polymerization of polypyrrole in the Zr-Fumerate pores leads to the formation of homogenously coated MOF-spheres with high crystalinity and a high degree of improvement in many electrical properties such as conductivity and carrier mobility. The figure shows the movement of the electrons from the hot to the cold side in the aligned polymer inside the MOF pores.

Imaging modalities combined with a multimodal nanocomposite contrast agent hold great potential for significant contributions in the biomedical field. Among modern imaging techniques, photoacoustic (PA) and fluorescence (FL) imaging gained much attention due to their non-invasive feature and the mutually supportive characteristic in terms of spatial resolution, penetration depth, imaging sensitivity, and speed. In this present study, we synthesized IR783 conjugated chitosan–polypyrrole nanocomposites (IR-CS–PPy NCs) as a theragnostic agent used for FL/PA dual-modal imaging. A customized FL and photoacoustic imaging system was constructed to perform required imaging experiments and create high-contrast images. The proposed nanocomposites were confirmed to have great biosafety, essentially a near-infrared (NIR) absorbance property with enhanced photostability. The in vitro photothermal results indicate the high-efficiency MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell ablation ability of IR-CS–PPy NCs under 808 nm NIR laser irradiation. The in vivo PTT study revealed the complete destruction of the tumor tissues with IR-CS–PPy NCs without further recurrence. The in vitro and in vivo results suggest that the demonstrated nanocomposites, together with the proposed imaging systems could be an effective theragnostic agent for imaging-guided cancer treatment.

Polypyrrole (PPy) was prepared with various weight loadings of acetic acid (10, 30 and 50 wt.%) over chemical oxidative polymerization. The structural and electrical properties of the prepared samples were characterized by XRD and electrical analysis. The charge transport mechanism of PPy was executed by Keithley (6517B) equipment performed between a voltage of 1 to 10 V by the increment of 1 V. The current over capacitor as a role of the applied voltage was carried out from 303 to 403 K temperature range. The XRD result confirms the amorphous nature of PPy. The charge transport process of PPy was deliberated by Mott’s variable-range hopping (VRH) through the conductivities and they found using various weight loadings of acetic acid. The conductivity (σdc) was found to increase with the temperature increase, which indicates the semiconducting nature and the conductivity value calculated was 10− 9 to 10− 7 S/cm for various weight loadings of acetic acid. The I-V study outcomes the linear behavior and the semiconducting nature of PPy, and the study was completed by the explanation of the Poole-Frenkel type conduction mechanism, ln (J) vs. T plots in PPy samples at high fields. It concludes that the comparison of theoretical field-lowering coefficients βS and βPF and the experimental field-lowering coefficients βS and βPF were correlated and the result confirms the Poole-Frenkel type conduction mechanism in PPy. The activation energy diminishes from 1.22 to 1.07 eV with an increase of acetic acid weight percentage.
