These were placed in a category termed “generic resistance” or in a category termed “incidental citation of Willis.” Examples of generic uses of resistance include both casual uses of the word resistance , such as resistance to desegregation (Til, 1959), as well as unrelated theoretical or scientific concepts containing resistance in their names, such as skin resistance (Tryon, 1980), resistance to extinction (Barringer & Gholson, 1979), resistance to therapy (Peters & Wattenberg, 1966), or resistance to infection (Rugen, 1940). These articles did not make reference to Willis, Bowles and Gintis, or the related literature.…”
