Moreover, similar to other Dendroctonus species, D. valens is monogamous (Wood, 1982; Liu et al ., 2006; Latty & Reid, 2010; Owen et al ., 2010; Liu et al ., 2020) and females initiate attack and construct galleries before being joined by a mate, thus making females a critical resource for male (Liu et al ., 2006) .
