Byrsonima crassifolia L. Kunth is a plant native to the Americas that grows in tropical and subtropical areas. Fresh B. crassifolia fruits are a good source of ascorbic acid and carotenoids and contain volatile compounds such as butyric and caproic acids. Although B. crassifolia is commonly exploited from wild natural ecosystems, it exhibits the potential to become a crop plant. When optimal agronomic management systems support propagation by seed, fruits with more homogeneous characteristics can be produced compared to those obtained from wild or backyard plants. B. crassifolia fruits can be found in local markets in Central and South America. The pulp, peel, and other B. crassifolia fruit components can be processed to make traditional and innovative food products, namely candies, cookies, cakes, candied fruits, ice creams, sorbets, jellies, juices, liqueurs, jams, nectars, pickles, and fruit drinks as an alternative to avoid the waste of overripe fruits. Additionally, the woody fraction of the B. crassifolia tree is used as a source of firewood, as shade, and for constructing living fences. These uses also allow the maximum use of biomass by establishing support for cultivation with the circular economy and strengthening food security. Therefore, this review aims to provide insights into the generation and dissemination of knowledge supporting the development of strategies in the areas of agronomy, postharvest management, and technological processing of B. crassifolia to promote its sustainable use and exploitation.

RESUMOA atividade apícola tem se consolidado como boa alternativa para geração de emprego e renda, apresentando o mel da região Nordeste do Brasil uma grande aceitação no mercado, pelo seu diferencial do mel ser proveniente de vegetação nativa. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo descrever a atividade apícola na região da zona da mata sul de Pernambuco, com ênfase na produção e qualidade dos méis produzidos nessa região. Para quantificar a produção de mel foram utilizadas as informações do banco de dados da Associação de Apicultores e Meliponicultores do Cabo. Para análise da qualidade do mel, foram coletadas amostras e submetidas às análises sensorial dos méis quanto a cor e análises físico-químicas de umidade, acidez, pH, Hidroximetilfurfural (HMF) e atividade de água (Aw). Todas as análises foram realizadas em duplicata e todos os dados analisados descritivamente. A apicultura na região da zona da mata de Pernambuco é uma atividade predominantemente familiar, que gera renda complementar para a família, e que apesar da aptidão da região para produção de mel, a produção está subestimada. Todas as amostras de méis analisadas dos apiários de produção apresentaram qualidade e estavam de acordo com o estabelecido pela legislação brasileira. The presence of Apis mellifera in Brazil is a concern due to competition with native bees. The intensity of competitions, especially on nests cavities, was not established yet.Therefore, we aim o describe the first report of invasion and occupation by A. mellifera in rational nest box of Melipona fasciculada. We realized observations from june and August (2015) and verifying invasion and occupation of the rational nest box. The nest of M. fasciculata (tiuba) was invaded and occupied by A. mellifera. A. mellifera individuals expelled M. fasciculata individuals from the nest and used the nest structure for protection of the new honeycomb that was used by fries of M. fasciculada.
