Physical and Morphological Properties of Styrene Butadiene Rubber / Recycled Chloroprene Rubber (SBR/CRr) Blends

Abstract: The effects of physical and morphological properties of styrene butadiene rubber/virgin chloroprene rubber blends (SBR/CRv) and styrene butadiene rubber/recycled chloroprene rubber blends (SBR/CRr) were investigated. Both SBR/CRv blends and SBR/CRr blends were prepared using two roll mill at room temperature with blend ratios 95/5, 85/15, 75/25, 65/35 and 50/50. The range size of CRr used in this study was 0.3 0.7 mm. The SBR/CRr blends shows higher value of hardness and crosslink density compared to SBR/CRv b… Show more

“…4 Demand for synthetic rubber in 2020 according to rubber types, and their respective applications. [49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57] disposal management are among the problems faced globally. [66][67][68] The high demand and usage volume for rubber products created a serious problem, as the rate of biodegradation of synthetic rubbers is extremely low, and they persist in landlls or nature for almost indenitely aer being discarded, causing environmental pollution and increase in landll sizes.…”

“…In addition, through the appropriate selection of rubbers, it is possible to obtain better processability of rubber blends, as well as to reduce the production costs of elastomeric goods. The unique properties of polychloroprene mean that it is often mixed with such rubbers as natural rubber [18,19]; carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber [20]; styrene-butadiene rubber [21][22][23]; and, recently, with butadiene rubber as well [24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32]. Vulcanizates made of polychloroprene are characterized by their good tensile strength, resistance to weather conditions, thermal resistance up to 100 • C, and good resistance to ozone and non-polar solvents.…”

“…Therefore, most of the heterogeneous rubber compounds properties are significantly effect by their morphology [2]. Several attempts were made to improve the compatibility of compounds using different techniques [3][4][5][6][7]. Most of these studies are related to compatibilization effects on the different types of rubber blending or rubber compounding, which found that the addition of third material as a compatibilizer into immiscible binary system led to improve most of the physicomechanical properties and Increased the distribution of the dispersed phase in the rubber matrix.…”
