Physical and Chemical Properties of Biodiesel Obtained from Amazon Sailfin Catfish (Pterygoplichthys pardalis) Biomass Oil

Abstract: Amazon sailfin catfish (Pterygoplichthys pardalis) is considered one of the greatest threats to the biodiversity of continental aquatic systems, causing serious economic and environmental problems in the regions. In this work, the production of biodiesel from Amazon sailfin catfish biomass oil is studied. The physical and chemical properties of biofuel produced were evaluated under the specifications of the European standard EN-14214 by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, and ato… Show more

“…The Kv obtained as shown in Table 4 are 25.6, 4.1, 3.3 and 3.9 mm 2 /s at a temperature of 40 °C for WCO, RBC500, RBC700 and RBC900 respectively. The Kv of the biodiesel samples fall within the range of the standard and this gives an assurance of quality biodiesel that can combust completely in a CIE without leaving residual residues that can cause damage in the engine 49 . Whereas, Kv of the WCO is about one-sixth far higher than that of the biodiesel samples, an indication of the effect of the trans-esterification process.…”

“…Cloud Point (CP) is the temperature at which the cloud of wax crystals become visible in liquid fuel. This is observed when the fuel is cooled under a controlled environment using the ASTM procedure (ASTM D 2500) 49 . The CP values of the biodiesel samples obtained are shown in Table 4 as + 7, + 5 and + 5 for RBC500, RBC700 and RBC900 respectively.…”

“…In the selection of a quality fuel it is an important parameter. Due to high oxygen contents the biofuel caloric value is usually lesser than the diesel fuel (Anguebes et al, 2019). The finding data presented in Table 1 showed that the calorific value of cocklebur crop biofuel is comparatively lower than the petro-diesel fuel.…”
