Physical Activity Promotion for Apprentices in Nursing Care and Automotive Mechatronics–Competence Counts More than Volume

Abstract: Apprentices in the area of nursing care and automotive mechatronics are exposed to increased health risks. In this context, the promotion of physical activity (PA) is considered an effective strategy for the assurance of work ability. The goal of the PArC-AVE study was therefore to better understand the role of PA for apprentices employed in these two sectors. In an exploratory study, 55 apprentices wore an ActiGraph accelerometer over seven consecutive days and were subject to activity analysis. The objective… Show more

“…Adherence to ActiGraph and Fitbit: This was calculated by the proportion of participants who wore the ActiGraph at least 5 out of 7 days per week [ 35 , 36 ] for at least seven hours a day (≥80% excellent and ≥70% good) [ 23 ]. Similar criteria were used for wearing the Fitbit in the GetActive-Fitbit group.…”

“…The PAHCO model has been the subject of some publications in the German-speaking area (e.g., Sudeck and Pfeifer, 2016;Pfeifer et al, 2013;Peters et al, 2013;Schmid et al, 2020;Gawlik et al, 2018) and on the international level (e.g., Carl et al, 2020;Carl et al, in press b;Sudeck et al, 2018;Haible et al, 2020). Also, this framework has already served as the theoretical foundation for interventions and programs (e.g., Haible et al, 2019;Bruland et al, 2019;Geidl et al, 2017;Ley et al, 2014;Streber and Pfeifer, 2018).…”
