“…We did not include Nyctalus lasiopterus in the checklist because there is only a single old distribution record for the species in Iran and the species was not observed since 1970 (Etemad, 1970). Furthermore, we added more coordinated data for the bat species from published resources (for instance, Akmali et al, 2011;Fathipour et al, 2016;Kafaei et al, 2020;Naderi et al, 2017;Najafi et al, 2018Najafi et al, , 2019 and online databases like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF, 2021) and VertNet (http://vertn et.org/). Distribution records (Figure 1) collected from different sources were combined and then checked for duplicates and outliers.…”

“…is characteristically hot and prolonged in summer with no freezing period in winter (DeBlase 1980). Although some reports indicate that R. microphyllum enters the Iranian plateau and stays in marginal areas of the Zagros range to the Mesopotamian plain for a short period in summer (Hemmati 2001, Akmali et al 2011, this bat occurs mainly in dry lands of southern parts of Iran. Species of the genus Rhinopoma demonstrate well developed morphological and physiological adaptations to their desert life with a valve nostril, efficient kidneys, less capillarized skin and a short gut (Schliter & Qumsiyeh 1996).…”

“…Furthermore, Naderi et al (2017) added one species to the list of the bat fauna of the country, increasing the number of documented species to 51 including 20 genera from 9 families. In recent years, Iranian researchers have conducted several studies in different parts of the country and provided invaluable information about various aspects of bats' biology in Iran (Akmali et al 2011a(Akmali et al , 2011b(Akmali et al , 2015Fathipour et al 2016;Shahabi et al 2017aShahabi et al , 2017bShahabi et al , 2019Akmali et al 2019a;Mehdizadeh et al 2019Mehdizadeh et al , 2020Najafi et al 2019aNajafi et al , 2019bNajafi et al , 2019cAkmali 2020;Kafaei et al 2020aKafaei et al , 2020b. Additionally, Yusefi et al (2019) provided a comprehensive review of all literature published on terrestrial mammals of Iran including bats along with their latest taxonomic revisions and updated distribution ranges.…”
