Phylogeny of the tribes Juanulloeae and Solandreae (Solanaceae)

Abstract: The tribe Juanulloeae is composed of seven to nine Neotropical genera of lianas and epiphytic or terrestrial shrubs that exhibit a wide variety of floral morphologies and pollination syndromes. Their commonly epiphytic habit in the forest canopy and relatively infrequent flowering has resulted in few and fragmentary specimens and has complicated taxonomic study of the tribe so that many of its genera remain poorly understood. Solandra, currently included in the monotypic tribe Solandreae, is morphologically ve… Show more

“…The count of 2n = 24 and chromosome morphology of Trianaea nobilis, of the Solandreae (Orejuela & al., 2017), are congruent with the data previously found in two other members of the tribe (Piovano, 1989;Acosta & Moscone, 2000) and fit with the general pattern of the "x = 12 clade" where Solandreae are placed (see Särkinen & al., 2013). The tribe includes ca.…”

“…80 species of mainly epiphytic or hemi-epiphytic lianas and shrubs in a number of genera currently being recircumscribed (Orejuela et al 2017;Orejuela et al in prep). The group is restricted to the Neotropics, with species distributed from Mexico and the Caribbean to Bolivia and southern Brazil (Orejuela et al 2017). A centre of endemism for the tribe lies in Andean Ecuador and Colombia, where ca.…”
