Phylogenomic inference of the African tribe Monodoreae (Annonaceae) and taxonomic revision of Dennettia, Uvariodendron and Uvariopsis

Léo-Paul M. J. Dagallier,
Frank M. Mbago,
Marie Couderc
et al.

Abstract: Monodoreae (Annonaceae) is a tribe composed of 11 genera and 90 species restricted to the tropical African rain forests. All the genera are taxonomically well circumscribed except the species rich genera Uvariodendron and Uvariopsis which lack a recent taxonomic revision. Here, we used a robust phylogenomic approach, including all the 90 currently accepted species, with several specimens per species, and based on more than 300 Annonaceae-specific nuclear genes, to infer the phylogenetic tree of the Monodoreae … Show more

“…Finally, Sanrafaelia was inferred as sister to tribe Uvarieae, confirming the results of Couvreur et al (2019), but in contrast with the results based on plastid markers (Couvreur et al, 2008(Couvreur et al, , 2019Chatrou et al, 2012;Guo et al, 2017). Sanrafaelia and its sister genus Ophrypetalum (not sampled here) were recently transferred to a new tribe based on a phylogenetic analysis of tribe Monodoreae using the Annonaceae probe kit (Dagallier et al, 2023).…”

“…New plant species to science such as Keetia gordonii continue to be published steadily from Gabon. Recently published new species range from trees and shrubs (Barberá et al 2023; Couvreur et al 2022; Dagallier et al 2023; Lachenaud & Bidault 2022; Quintanar et al 2023) to epiphytic herbs (Farminhão et al 2023), epiphytic parasitic shrubs (Lachenaud 2023) to lianas (Jongkind & Lachenaud 2022).…”
