“…Molecular phylogenies have been recently used also to help taxonomists solving controversies at lower systematic hierarchies. Examples of the successful use of molecular phylogenies in taxonomy can be found in the clarification of the position of the genus Plationus in the family Brachionidae , in the reallocation of Proales daphnicola to the genus Epiphanes , and in the support for the description of new species in the genus Abrochtha . Given the increased availability of genetic information, the low cost of sequencing and the fact that most laboratories nowadays have access to sequencing facilities, it is safe to foresee that the use of molecular phylogenies will be more and more often incorporated in rotifer taxonomy and systematics, especially in solving species complexes in taxa with known extensive morphological variability of unclear taxonomic value.…”
