“…Up to now, 17 genera have been identified belonging to the Hydrobiidae family sensu stricto in Morocco (Mabrouki et al, 2021a(Mabrouki et al, , 2022. However, despite a growing number of data over the last years, resulting in the discovery of many new taxa (Glöer et al, 2020a, b;Ghamizi, 2021;Mabrouki et al, 2021b;Taybi et al, 2021), our knowledge of freshwater snails of Morocco remains scanty and we could argue that the picture of hydrobiid species list in North Africa is still incomplete.…”

“…Total genomic DNA was extracted from entire snails using a CTAB protocol described in Wilke et al (2006) and the DNeasy Blood & Tissue kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany). The mitochondrial gene fragments cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and the large ribosomal subunit (16S), as well as the nuclear large ribosomal subunit (28S), were amplified using the primer pairs of Boulaassafer et al (2020). The universal metazoan primers of Holland et al (1991) served to amplify a fragment of the nuclear small ribosomal subunit (18S).…”

“…Amplification conditions for COI, 16S and 18S were the same as those described in Delicado et al (2012) with an annealing temperature of 48-50°C. The 28S PCR conditions were those of Boulaassafer et al (2020). The amplified PCR products were Sanger-sequenced on an ABI 3730 XL sequencer (Life Technologies, Carlsbad, CA, USA) using a Big Dye Terminator kit v. 3.1 (Life Technologies).…”

“…However, compared with recent advances in research into the role of waterbirds in the dispersal of plants (e.g., Lovas-Kiss et al 2019;Martín-Vélez et al 2021a;Sebastián-González et al 2020), their role as dispersal vectors of invertebrates remains poorly investigated. For example, their importance as vectors for molluscs remains unclear, despite anecdotal observations and an increasing number of studies of mollusc genetics that support a key role for birds (Green and Figuerola 2005;Martin et al 2020;Boulaassafer et al 2020).…”
