Phylogenetic reassessment of tribe Anemoneae (Ranunculaceae): Non-monophyly of Anemone s.l. revealed by plastid datasets

Abstract: Morphological and molecular evidence strongly supported the monophyly of tribe Anemoneae DC.; however, phylogenetic relationships among genera of this tribe have still not been fully resolved. In this study, we sampled 120 specimens representing 82 taxa of tribe Anemoneae. One nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and six plastid markers (atpB-rbcL, matK, psbA-trnQ, rpoB-trnC, rbcL and rps16) were amplified and sequenced. Both Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods were used to recon… Show more

“…These genera correspond to the main phylogenetic lineages (clades) outlined in recent molecular phylogenetic studies (e.g., Ehrendorfer, Samuel, 2000, 2001Schuettpelz et al, 2002;Wang et al, 2009;Meyer et al, 2010;Pfosser et al, 2011;Hoot et al, 2012;Lehtonen et al, 2016;Jiang et al, 2017, and references therein). As reported by Lehtonen et al (2016), Jiang et al (2017), Liu et al (2018b) and some other authors, the clade containing the genus Clematis L. (incl. Archiclematis (Tamura) Tamura and Naravelia Adans.…”

“…The sequence alignment and all the settings of parsimony and Bayesian analyses were the same with Liu, Ding et al 2018a. Phylogenetic framework of Clematis as well as Ranunculaceae were consistent with previous studies (Miikeda et al 2006;Wang et al 2009;Xie et al 2011;Lehtonen et al 2016;Jiang et al 2017;.…”

“…Sm., has been excluded from the Anemoneae, even from Ranunculaceae, and treated as its own family Kingdoniaceae, or included within the family Circaeasteraceae (Ren et al 2004;Wang et al 2009;APG III 2009). In addition, Anemoneae with the remaining two tribes is strongly supported as the monophyletic group in phylogenetic analyses (Jansen et al 1995;Ro et al 1997;Wang et al 2009;Jiang 2017).…”
