Phylogenetic classification of Cordyceps and the clavicipitaceous fungi

Abstract: Cordyceps, comprising over 400 species, was historically classified in the Clavicipitaceae, based on cylindrical asci, thickened ascus apices and filiform ascospores, which often disarticulate into part-spores.
