This work presents the conversion of a photovoltaic water pumping system (PVWPS) to its corresponding battery-based solution, while maintaining the components of the PVWPS facility and adding the power converter needed to manage the operation of a lithium-ion battery. A complete analysis of the direct PVWPS is performed based on the values obtained by the monitoring system developed for the installation. The efficiencies and performance ratios of the various elements of the facility are calculated, as well as other relevant factors (such as irradiance thresholds). The dependence of some variables on the solar resource is analyzed to model the system. A similar study is carried out in the battery-based solution and a comparative analysis of the two modes of operation is then performed to find which aspects could be improved in the battery-based solution to increase the pumping time and total daily pumped volume. The results presented demonstrate the benefits of including a battery (reduction in start/stop cycles and improved performance on cloudy days). Aspects that can be improved to make the battery-based solution more efficient and achieve better results are suggested.INDEX TERMS Photovoltaic water pumping systems, lithium batteries, battery-based pumping, water pumping, stand-alone photovoltaic system, sustainable development goals.

This paper presents a comparison study between the measured solar radiations on site and the calculated solar radiation based on the most theoretical models presented in the literature up to date. Indeed, for such purposes, this paper focusses on the analysis of the data of the measured solar radiation collected on two sites in Algeria such as Tlemcen (34°52′58″ N 01°19′00″ W, elevation 842 m) and Senia (35°39′ N 0°38′ W, elevation: 77 m). In order to check the accuracy of the proposed model, the experimental collected data of the solar radiation obtained from the existing radiometric stations installed at the two locations under investigation, are compared with the estimated or predicted solar radiations obtained from the Capderou and R.Sun models, where four days under clear skies are selected from different seasons to achieve this comparison. Second, the daily averages of the experimental global solar irradiation are compared to those predicted by Mefti model for both the sites. Finally, a validation is carried out based on the obtained experimental monthly global irradiations and with those estimated by Coppolino and Sivkov models. A relative difference is used in this case to judge the reliability and the accuracy of each model for both sites.

Because of its environmental benefits, PV technology is widely used in several applications. It presents an alternative solution for isolated sites that does not dispose a grid connection. However, it has drawbacks, its intermittent character, due to its dependency on meteorological parameters such as the outside temperature and solar irradiation. The energy produced by the PV systems can have an excess or deficit of electricity at the loads, which leads to unused energy or a service discontinuity. This paper presents an intelligent strategy management between photovoltaic station owners. It can be involved as follow between two customers: the photovoltaic installation production of the first customer is higher than its load requirement; however, the neighboring station has a lack of energy to cover its load. In this case, it brings energy from station 1 to cover the insufficiency and vice versa. The batteries intervene neither, if the required energy cannot be provided by the local and the neighbored stations, nor, to store the excess power. The dual standalone photovoltaic system was created using MATLAB Simulink environment. Basing on the fuzzy logic controller, the proposed management exchange algorithm is applied for a two stand-alone PV-battery stations. The Mamdani is one of the widely known fuzzy inference system. It ensures continuous energy delivery to the load while minimizing wasted power. The simulation results demonstrate the previously mentioned controller performances and effectiveness between standalone PV systems.
