Photothermal and Enhanced Photocatalytic Therapies Conduce to Synergistic Anticancer Phototherapy with Biodegradable Titanium Diselenide Nanosheets

Abstract: Photothermal therapy (PTT) and photocatalytic therapy using near-infrared (NIR) laser radiation, which provide high specificity and efficiency, have gained extensive attention as noninvasive treatments for tumor destruction. PTT uses photo-absorbers with high photothermal conversion efficiency to convert light into heat and kill cancer cells via an increase in temperature. PTT requires temperatures over 50 °C to effectively destroy cancer cells. [2] Although such high temperatures may also cause thermal damage… Show more

“…There are many anti-apoptotic proteins in the downstream genes of NF- κ B, such as Bcl-2, Bcl-XL, Bfl-1, cIAP1, cIAP2, TRAF1, and TRAF2. NF- κ B inhibits these anti-apoptotic proteins by inducing or upregulating Apoptosis, and it has also been reported that NF- κ B can promote the expression of Fas, FasL, DR4, and DR5 and promote apoptosis in some specific cases, but in general, the constitutive activation of NF- κ B helps tumor cells to escape apoptosis [ 59 ]. The pro-apoptotic activity of NOSH-Aspirin is undoubtedly a new route for the research of antitumor drugs.…”

“…Relevant literature points out that the larger the specific surface area of the sheet-like structure, the higher the zeta potential, and the greater the drug-carrying capacity of nanomaterials ( Duo et al, 2021 ). Dai et al synthesized a radiosensitizer based on 4-layer O-Ti 7 O 13 nanosheets by using two-dimensional titanium peroxide nanomaterials with mesoporous structure to support DOX Dai Y. et al (2021) .…”

“…16 PCT is an emerging cancer therapeutic method that utilizes reactive photogenerated holes and electrons based on the photoinduced electron−hole separation of photocatalysts to generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) to kill cancer cells. 17 On the other hand, the strong coordination capacity of Cu II endows copper selenide NPs with the potential to be used as drug carriers in principle, which has not been reported so far. It is obvious that copper selenide NPs are promising candidates for use in the construction of "all-in-one" nanoplatforms for multimodal cancer therapy.…”
