Photostimulation effects on chicken egg development: Perspectives on human newborn treatment

Abstract: It is well known that, under exposure to bright light, eggs tend to hatch earlier than control, without any damage to the birds. This report aims to systematically show the effect and establishes a proposal for a possible application to accelerate chicken egg formation, which could be extrapolated or adapted as a great advance in premature human newborns. Comparing several protocols, the experiments show that lower doses of light slowly delivered for 24 h promote higher efficiency in embryo development, increa… Show more

“…Considering the dramatic effects of red light PBM on hatching of larger chickens from eggs , there would appear to be many opportunities for PBM in poultry rearing and egg production, especially that now this is often conducted indoors under artificial lighting. Although much of the livestock industry is concerned with mammalian species and this may be off‐topic, it is worth pointing out that there would appear to be large numbers of unexplored opportunities for PBM in agricultural food production.…”

“…Buzza et al . in Sao Paulo Brazil decided to test whether red light delivered during the egg incubation period could affect the hatched chickens better than bright white light. They found that the best results were achieved with low‐power densities (0.014 mW cm −2 ) delivered continuously 24 hours per day for 10 days (a dose of 1.2 J cm −2 per day).…”

“…Further growth with the use of light has previously been observed in birds and embryos of chicken, with light focused on the eggs , similar to the results of the present study. Many of mechanisms of PBM are common in different organisms, including nonmammalians forms of life, such as worms, fish and birds .…”

“…After red light was applied to chicken eggs with an impressive result regarding the acceleration of the formation of the embryos , in addition to the results of rats demonstrated in the present study, we are closer to the goal of the treatment of premature human newborns. This report aimed to discuss this important possible application and to initiate the studies in this direction.…”
