Photostability of lasing process from water solution of Rhodamine 6G with gold nanoparticles

Abstract: We report the lasing performance and photobleaching of gain material containing a water solution of Rhodamine 6G dye and gold nanoparticles (NPs). In comparison to a pure dye solution, the investigated material demonstrated both enhancement and quenching of the lasing output, depending on the relative concentration of the gold NPs. Although the presence of NPs with an optimized concentration looks preferable in terms of the lasing output enhancement, such additives deteriorate the operational resource of the g… Show more

“…Such a low enhancement has been observed in some other studies based on simple MNPs. 29,30 In our study, it is due to the weak coupling of incident excitation field and emission wavelength to the plasmon resonance of dipolar mode of the gold nanosphere. Let us point out that molecule 3 contributed as well to this enhancement.…”

“…Large developments of shape control enable nowadays to synthesize nanoparticles of non-spherical shapes, such as rods, prisms, cubes, cuboctahedrons, octahedrons, decahedrons, icosahedrons, truncated octahedrons, etc. Several studies about the stability under photoirradiation of gold nanoparticles have also been reported [37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44] . Synthesis of anisotropic structures such as gold nanorods and nanowires were widely studied since Murphy's 20 and El-Sayed's 21-23 pioneering works, and has attracted much attention due to the fine-tuning of light absorption from visible to near infrared just by changing the aspect ratios (length/diameter).…”

“…singlet oxygen modules, resulting in the degradation on laser output energy. However, during the first 2.5 × 10 4 pulses, the output energy of the PM650 doped into PDMS bulk samples increased, and was even higher than its initial level, which could be ascribed to the optimization on the dye concentration during pumping , . Thus, it was expected that by optimizing the dye concentration or co‐doping with other additives, for instance, other laser dyes to facilitate the energy transfer or prohibit the photo‐chemical reactions, more stable solid‐state dye laser materials with broader tunable range and higher efficiencies might be obtained based on the PDMS matrices.…”
