Photoproduction of theρ0Meson on the Proton at Large Momentum Transfer

Abstract: The differential cross section, d sigma/dt, for rho(0) meson photoproduction on the proton above the resonance region was measured up to a momentum transfer -t = 5 GeV2 using the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The rho(0) channel was extracted from the measured two charged-pion cross sections by fitting the pi(+)pi(-) and p pi(+) invariant masses. The low momentum transfer region shows the typical diffractive pattern expected from Reggeon exchange. The flatter behavior at l… Show more

“…The differential cross sections for the reaction γ p → n π + were measured with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) [6] and the bremsstrahlung photon-tagging facility ("photon tagger") [7] in Hall B of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) as part of a set of experiments running at the same time with the same experimental configuration (cryogenic target, tagger, and CLAS) called the "g1c" run period. The cross sections were part of a program of meson photoproduction measurements undertaken using CLAS and the photon tagger [5,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15].…”

“…Consequently, as shown in the present work, our rigorous theoretical analyses on the presently available highstatistics and wide-angle-coverage experimental data for the various physical observables will be valuable for a profound understanding for the light-flavor (ρ and ω) and hidden-flavor (J/ψ) vector meson photoproductions [64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71]. Related works will appear elsewhere.…”

“…For photoproduction of vector mesons, T γp→ρ 0 p , the Regge model [2,7] which reproduces the world set of data in the entire angular range (see for instance section 2.4, and reference [9]) is used. The model takes into account the exchange of the Pomeron, the f 2 and σ mesons in the t-channel, as well as the exchange of the nucleon and the Delta in the u-channel.…”

“…The modeling [5] of the Pomeron in terms of two gluons provides a good description [2,6,7] of the photo-production cross section [8] at high −t. In addition the exchange of meson Regge trajectories are needed to account for the angular distributions in the photo-production of ρ and ω mesons [9,10].…”
