Photophysical Properties of Sol–gel derived Luminescent Silicone Hybrids Synthesized via Facile Amino‐Ene Reaction

Abstract: Novel luminescent silicone hybrids (LSHs) containing lanthanide ions were prepared via different sol-gel processes. The precursor, dimethyl ester-functionalized silane, was synthesized via a facile amino-ene reaction. The coordinated assembly of the ester ligands and lanthanide ions (Eu(3+), Tb(3+) and Dy(3+)) occurred. The ester ligands were immobilized onto the Si-O network backbone during the preparation of the silicone hybrid materials. The particle size can be controlled to ca 50 nm by adjusting the solve… Show more

“…The TGA curve reveals that 1 and 2 begin to decompose and both show two evident weight loss from 322 C, which corresponding to the collapsion of the structure. [28][29][30][31] For 2, when xing the strongest emission at 619 nm ( 5 D 0 / 7 F 2 ), the excitation spectrum of 1 displays a broad band covering from 235 to 335 nm (Fig. 16 Luminescence Luminescence of solid sample 1 and 2 were tested at the room temperature.…”

“…The weight of the ligand Te‐3 was rapidly decreased untill completely decomposition with increasing temperature, and the stabilities of corresponding cmoplexes increased significantly and the complexes showed a similar trend of decomposition. The first weight loss observed in Te‐3‐Eu 3:1 and Te‐3‐Tb 3:1 has been attributed to the loss of coordinated water . The second weight loss step could be due to the decomposition of the organic groups .…”

“…The peaks of PMPE‐Eu4:1‐SH and PMS‐Eu4:1‐SH are also shifted to a lower energy. This phenomenon is due to the coordination of carbonyl groups by europium ions in the silicone elastomer and the alteration of the previous coordination environment of lanthanide nitrate 17. A pair of electrons are donated by the ligands to the metal ions, which act as electron acceptors in a σ‐ bond‐type coordination mode; this process strengthens the electron shielding and reduces the inner‐electron binding energy in the metal ions.…”

“…The first weight loss observed in PMP‐Eu4:1‐SH, PMPE‐Eu4:1‐SH, and PMS‐Eu4:1‐SH has been attributed to the loss of coordinated water 39. The second weight loss step may be due to the decomposition of the organic groups and the breaking of the polysiloxane main chain 17. The TG curves indicate that these complexes decompose above 280 °C, which means that device fabrication by the vacuum evaporation method is more feasible.…”
