Photophysical properties and X-ray crystal structure of a luminescent platinum(II) dimer [Pt2(2,2′ : 6′,2″-terpyridine)2(Gua)](CIO4)3·H2O (Gua = guanidine anion)

Abstract: A n e w luminescent d8-d8 dinuclear Ptll polypyridyl complex [Pt2(2,2' : 6',2''-terp~ridine)~(Gua)]3+ is synthesised and characterized by X-ray crystallography; its spectroscopic and photoredox properties are investigated.

“…Structures of dinuclear 137-148 with short intramolecular distances between metal centers (Pt-Pt and Pd-Pd) and terpyridine moieties 35,67,69,[146][147][148][149][150][151][152][153]. which was attributed to dimer formation of 144 similar to the dark crystal packing.Lowe et al149 prepared a dinuclear complex 149 with a thioacetamine linker, which slowly decomposed in water to form intermediate 150, which abstracted an extra sulfur with a Pt(II) terpyridine moiety of 149 and was converted to a crystalline trinuclear propeller-like complex 151 (Scheme 13).…”

“…Tunable solution‐state intermolecular Pt⋅⋅⋅Pt interactions and π–π stacking were suggested to be responsible for these remarkable spectroscopic changes upon variations in the solvent composition, counteranion, and pH value of the polyelectrolyte. However, the related intramolecular association or self‐assembly of this class of complexes in solution were not extensively explored 3bd…”
