Photonic Sintering of Oxide Ceramic Films: Effect of Colored FexOy Nanoparticle Pigments

Abstract: Alumina and zirconia thin films modified with colored nano-FexOy pigments were sintered by the flash-lamp-annealing method. We selected a nano α-Al2O3 and micron α-Al2O3 bimodal mixture as the base precursor material, and we doped it with 5 vol% of FexOy red/brown/black/yellow pigments. The coatings were deposited from nanoparticle dispersions both on glass and on flexible metal foil. The characteristics of the thin films obtained with the use of various additives were compared, including the surface morpholog… Show more

“…α‐Al 2 O 3 is used as our exemplary ceramic test system for phosphate binding, although several other ceramic chemistries have also been explored. A mix of micro‐ and nano‐sized α‐Al 2 O 3 powders are investigated due to possible differences in chemical binding 35,36 . Smaller nanoparticles can also more efficiently pack a green body by filling voids between micro‐sized particles 37 .…”

“…A mix of microand nano-sized α-Al 2 O 3 powders are investigated due to possible differences in chemical binding. 35,36 Smaller nanoparticles can also more efficiently pack a green body by filling voids between micro-sized particles. 37 Nominally, mixtures of 50 nm (99.5%, Sigma-Aldrich) and 100 nm (99.99%, MSE supplies) α-Al 2 O 3 powders as well as a 10 μm α-Al 2 O 3 powder (99.5%, Sigma-Aldrich) were used in this work (33 wt% of each).…”

“…There is a known method for producing iron-containing inorganic pigments from technogenic waste [7][8][9][10][11]. Among the most demanded iron-containing pigments are iron oxide pigments, the color of which is mainly determined by the features of their composition and structure.…”
