photonic sensors review progress of optical fiber sensors and its application in harsh environment

Abstract: Fiber sensors have been developed for industry application with significant advantages. In this paper, Fiber sensors for oil field service and harsh environment monitoring which have been investigated in Tsinghua University are demonstrated. By discussing the requirements of practical applications, the key technologies of long-period fiber grating (LPFG) based fiber sensor, optical spectrum analyzer for oil detection, laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) system for soil contamination monitoring, and sei… Show more

“…9. The exponential decay of the amplitude of the vibration of the beam after releasing the force is in good agreement with the theoretical response of the damped motion from (6). The fast Fourier transform (FFT) spectrum of the damped motion of the beam for an applied short range force of 0.3 N is shown in Fig.…”

“…In contrast, fiber optic sensors are not affected by electromagnetic waves, and the material of the sensor is noncorrosive, moreover these are capable of measuring a variety of parameters such as the bending, displacement, vibration, temperature and pressure with the high sensitivity [4,5]. These sensors are stable even at high temperatures and harsh environments [6]. In general, fiber optic sensors are works based on interferometric, wavelength coding and intensity modulation.…”

“…The introduction of fiber-optic sensors allows measuring the temperature, pressure and other parameters each 100 m, 10 m and 1 m and even 10 cm of the well [18]. Real time control of the work and condition in the well through the sensors is also possible.…”
