Abstract: Photon spheres are the characteristic of general black holes, thus are a suitable touchstone for the emergence of gravitational spacetime in the AdS/CFT correspondence. We provide a spectral analysis of an AdS Schwarzschild black hole near its photon sphere. We find that quasinormal modes near the photon sphere reflect the AdS boundary, resulting in a peculiar spectral pattern. Our large angular momentum analysis owes to an analogue to solvable Schrödinger equations such as an inverted harmonic oscillator and … Show more

“…Motivated by this connection, one could try to extend some other known results on geodesic instabilities to the orbits of extended objects like strings. Of primary interest is the instability on the photon sphere which, apart from the well-known connection with quasinormal modes, holds the key to several other properties both in asymptotically flat and in global AdS spaces [90,91]. However, our setup needs to be substantially modified to study the photon sphere, which arises as the locus of unstable saddle points for null geodesics arriving from infinity.…”

“…Recently, by utilizing the sl(2, R) ISO , the QNMs for scalar, vector, and spinor fields were obtained for the self-dual warped three-dimensional AdS black hole [8]. In line with the aforementioned studies, [9,10] discovered a peculiar form of the scalar QNM spectra near the photon sphere of a Schwarzschild black hole in an asymptotically…”
