Inclusive cross sections for J/ψ production in proton-proton collisions were calculated in the kt-factorization approach for the RHIC energy. Several mechanisms were considered, including direct color-singlet mechanism, radiative decays of χc mesons, decays of ψ ′ , open-charm associated production of J/ψ as well as weak decays of B mesons. Different unintegrated gluon distributions from the literature were used. We find that radiative χc decays and direct color-singlet contributions constitute the dominant mechanism of J/ψ production. These process cannot be consistently treated within collinear-factorization approach. The results are compared with recent RHIC data. The new precise data at small transverse momenta impose stringent constraints on UGDFs. Some UGDFs are inconsistent with the new data. The Kwieciński UGDFs give the best description of the data. In order to verify the mechanism suggested here we propose J/ψ -jet correlation measurement and an independent measurement of χc meson production in π + π − and/or K + K − decay channels. Finally, we address the issue of J/ψ spin alignment.

The differential cross section for the dilepton production is calculated including internal motion of hadron constituents and emission from the ladders in the formalism of unintegrated parton distributions. We calculate azimuthal angular correlations between charged leptons and deviations from the p t (e + ) = p t (e − ) relation. We concentrate on the distribution in dilepton-pair transverse momentum. We study also azimuthal correlations between jet and dilepton pair and correlation in the (p 1t ( jet), p 2t (l + l − )) plane. The results are compared with experimental data.

Photon-jet azimuthal correlations in proton-nucleus collisions are a promising tool for gaining information on the gluon distribution of the nucleus in the regime of nonlinear color fields. We compute such correlations from the process g → qqγ in the rapidity regime where both the projectile and target lightcone momentum fractions are small. By integrating over the phase space of the quark which emits the photon, subject to the restriction that the photon picks up most of the transverse momentum (to pass an isolation cut), we effectively obtain a g þ A → qγ process. For nearly back-to-back photon-jet configurations we find that it dominates over the leading-order process q þ A → qγ by two less powers of Q ⊥ =Q S , where Q ⊥ and Q S denote the net photon-jet pair momentum and the saturation scale of the nucleus, respectively. We determine the transverse-momentum-dependent gluon distributions involved in g þ A → qγ and the scale where they are evaluated. Finally, we provide analytic expressions for hcos nϕi moments, where ϕ is the angle between Q ⊥ and the average photon-jet transverse momentumP ⊥ , and first qualitative estimates of their transverse momentum dependence.
