“…Functionalization of PSF with sulfonated hydroxypropyl chitosan leads to an increase of the membrane’s biocompatibility and antimicrobial properties due to the presence of chitosan through a Schiff base reaction carried out between the attached acetaldehyde and ortho-aminophenol (OAP) or meta-aminophenol (MAP) of PSF [ 62 ]. Firstly, chitosan was treated with propylene/isopropanol oxide for hydroxypropyl grafting, followed by sulfonation with formamide/chlorosulfonic acid in order to obtain hydroxypropyl chitosan sulfonate.…”

“…Quantum yield of photoluminescence of complexes. The photoluminescence quantum yields (F) of the prepared polymer-rare complexes were measured using a relative method using quinine sulfate as the standard, 29,31 and the data are listed in Table 1.…”

“…As long as ligands possessing the dual functions of coordination chelation and sensitization for lanthanide ions are to be chemically introduced onto the side chains of polymers with excellent properties such as polysulfone (PSF) by ingenious molecular design, luminescent polymer-rare earth complexes with high performance will be obtained via the subsequent coordination chelating reaction between the bonded dual-functional ligands and lanthanide ions. According to this concept, we successfully designed and synthesized two broad categories of luminescent polymer-rare earth complexes, aromatic carboxylic acid-type [25][26][27][28] and Schiff base-type [29][30][31] polymer-rare earth complexes. In the structures of these complexes, aromatic carboxylic acid ligands (benzoic acid or naphthoic acid) as bidentate ligands or bidentate Schiff base ligands with different structures were contained, respectively.…”
