Photoionization of Kr near the 4s threshold. I. Experiment and LS coupling theory

Abstract: Absolute cross sections for the transitions of the Kr atom into the 4s land 4p4nl states of the Kr + ion were measured in the 4s-electron threshold region by photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (PIFS). The cross sections for the transitions of the Kr atom into the 4sland 4p4nl states were also calculated, as weIl as the 4p4nln'I' doubly excited states, in the frame of LS-coupling many-body technique. The cross sections of the doubly-excited atomic states were used to illustrate the pronounced contribution… Show more

“…We use the configuration interaction Pauli Fock (CIPF) method, developed in previous work [2,[16][17][18][19][20]. In order to account for core polarization effects we use an approach described in a recent paper and there applied to photoionization of ground state alkali atoms [4].…”

“…The quantum numbers n, n 0 , l, and l 0 of the latter configuration have not yet been identified in the literature. The angular momenta (l; l 0 ) are most likely of the type (s; p) or (p; d) and the principal quantum numbers ðn; n 0 Þ ¼ ð5; 5Þ or (5, 6) [9,10,12]. The wave packet dynamics after excitation by the xuv pulse is probed by the absorption of a photon from a delayed ultrashort infrared (ir) laser pulse.…”

“…where as in [18,19] we apply the Pauli-Fock (PF) approximation for the calculation of the single-configuration energy, E PF (K), and second-order perturbation theory for the calculation of the correlation energy, E C (K), [18,19,[26][27][28]:…”
