Photoinduced hydrogen production with photosensitization of Zn chlorophyll analog dimer as a photosynthetic special pair model

Abstract: Zinc chlorophyll a derivatives were synthesised for use as photosensitizers. Herein, we report a system for photoinduced hydrogen production with colloidal platinum via photoreduction of methylviologen (MV 2+ ) using the photosensitization of a Zn pyropheophorbide a (ZnPyOH) dimer connected by lysine (ZnPy-K(ZnPy)OH) as a special pair model in the photosynthetic reaction centre in the presence of NADPH as an electron donor.

“…Kondo and co-workers compared the photocatalytic H 2 generation features of Zn pyropheophorbide a and its dimer as the photosensitizer . In this work, colloidal Pt was used as the catalyst with methyl viologen as the electron mediator and NADPH as the sacrificial reductant in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer.…”

“…Kondo and co-workers compared the photocatalytic H 2 generation features of Zn pyropheophorbide a and its dimer as the photosensitizer. 371 In this work, colloidal Pt was used as the catalyst with methyl viologen as the electron mediator and NADPH as the sacrificial reductant in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer. After 2 h of irradiation, the amount of H 2 generated was approximately 0.3 and 0.2 μmol by Zn pyropheophorbide and its dimer, respectively, corresponding to TONs of 20 and 13.…”
