Photogrammetric mapping using unmanned aerial vehicle

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Nowadays Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology has attracted attention for aerial photogrammetric mapping. The low cost and the feasibility to automatic flight along commanded waypoints can be considered as the main advantages of this technology in photogrammetric applications. Using GNSS/INS technologies the images are taken at the planned position of the exposure station and the exterior orientation parameters (position Xo, Yo, Zo and attitude ω, φ, χ) of images can be direct determined. However,… Show more

“…In the last few years, UAVs became readily available tools, low-cost, which can be used for taking measurements from the air [4]. The recent development in sensors and flying platforms equipped with UAV such as GPS, Inertial Navigation System (INS), and flight control have significantly broadened the applications such as engineering surveys, creating orthophoto maps, and generating 3D models [5][6]. UAV shortens the time that has to be spent in conducting surveys in the field from several days to a few hours [4].…”

“…It increases the safety of people performing measurements as an operator can be out of a dangerous zone. The high-resolution photos taken by the UAVs are able to obtain metric information on the Earth's surface [6]. [7] Indicated the capability of drone images for data collection and the precise measurement of road applications.…”
