Photoelectric search for peculiar stars in open clusters

Abstract: Context. The chemically peculiar (CP) stars of the upper main sequence are mainly characterized by strong overabundances of heavy elements. Two subgroups (CP2 and CP4) have strong local magnetic fields which make them interesting targets for astrophysical studies. This star group, in general, is often used for the analysis of stellar formation and evolution in the context of diffusion as well as meridional circulation. Aims. In continuation of a long term study of CP stars (initiated in the 1980s), we present … Show more

“…(1) E. Paunzen and M. Prišegen: On the detection of magnetic chemically peculiar stars using Gaia BP/RP spectra in the units of our synthetic photometric system. The characteristics are similar to the observed normality lines for open clusters (Netopil et al 2007;Paunzen et al 2014). The colour (g 1 − y) is well correlated with the T eff , especially from late B-to early F-type stars.…”

“…Cluster age constraints were not adopted for HD 96446 or HD 149438. HD 96446 was suggested to be the central star of the Feinstein 1 association by Paunzen et al (2014), however the Gaia distance to this star, 540 ± 20 pc, is less than half the distance to the cluster of 1200 +400 −200 pc given by Paunzen et al. We therefore consider it unlikely to be a member.…”

“…We presented, for the first time, photometric ∆a observations of three globular clusters. It measures the flux distribution in the region from 4900 to 5600Å (Paunzen et al 2014). This three filter narrow band system was originally developed to detect classical CP stars of the upper MS. Later on, it turned out that is also capable to detect underabundant, emission as well as shell type stars.…”
