“…Nonetheless, the photodeposition process has found application in the synthesis of noble metal/semiconductor compounds in different research areas, such as photocatalytic water splitting, 28,29 wastewater treatment, 30 and air purification. 31 While first successes about photodeposited iridium oxide on TiO2 are reported, 32 they are still scarce in the context of PEMWE. Albeit this demonstrates the general applicability of photodeposition to this research field, neither a continuous shell was achieved so far, nor was the catalyst characterized on PEMWE single-cell level.…”

“…The results showed that the IrO 2 − TiO 2 composite containing 25 wt % Ir has high catalytic activity for the OER in water electrolysis compared to commercial catalytic materials (IrO 2 ). 28 Oakton et al used the Adams fusion method to synthesize the IrO 2 −TiO 2 composite. The composites containing 40 mol % of Ir (55 wt %) have improved catalytic performance for the OER and enhanced durability compared with commercial catalysts (Umicore).…”

“…Iridium oxide (IrO 2 ) is a highly stable, corrosion-resistant, and electrically conductive material that has been used as an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst in electrochemical water electrolysis. Many reports demonstrated that using IrO 2 was one of the most effective ways for enhancing the electrical conductivity of TiO 2 . Iridium oxide–titanium oxide (IrO 2 –TiO 2 ) composites were synthesized by various methods, such as the hydrothermal method, sol–gel synthesis, deposition–precipitation, Adams fusion, , photodeposition, colloidal synthesis, and pyrolysis . Dimitrova et al reported the synthesis of IrO 2 –TiO 2 composites by photodeposition of IrO 2 nanoparticles from an Ir salt solution on the surface of TiO 2 powder using ultraviolet illumination.…”
