“…The photocatalytic activity of the films containing CeO 2 NPs was evaluated following the behavior of aqueous phenol, Methyl Orange and Congo Red solutions under ambient conditions and UV irradiation. The experimental protocol was in an analogous manner to [ 25 , 26 , 27 ]: 100 mL of aqueous solution of phenol (10 −3 M), Methyl Orange (5 10 −5 M) or Congo Red (10 −5 M) containing a piece of each hybrid film CACe-1/CACe-3/CACe-5 (1 g) was irradiated with UV light (Hg–Xe lamp, λ = 365 nm, light intensity ca. 10 mW/cm 2 ) for 3 h. The pollutant solutions were analyzed before and after UV exposure using an UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Perkin Elmer Lambda 2).…”

“…Some examples of Ag ENMs used for polluted water treatments are reported in Table 2, pointing out AgNP size and supporting the existence of synergic effects in some cases [61,75,[109][110][111][112]. A large number of innovative hybrid materials with a synergetic or complementary behavior were obtained using Ag-based photocatalysts.…”

“…The enhanced photoactivity of BV/Ag/AgO 2 photocatalysts is attributed to the improved adsorption of dyes and extended absorption of visible light by the photocatalysts, and better charge transfer kinetics. Melinte et al [61] prepared several photocatalysts based on Ag, Au or Au-Ag nanoparticles supported on photocrosslinked organic and these hybrid systems allowed the photocatalytic degradation of 4-nitroaniline. Roy et al [75] studied the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye in presence of biogenic AgNPs synthesized using yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) extract.…”

“…Additionally, noble metal nanoparticles (Ag, Au, Pd) were in situ photogenerated in the hybrid matrices concomitant with the polymerization process by adding the corresponding noble metal salts (AgNO3, HAuCl4 or Pd(NO3)2), which determines the formation of coatings with a homogeneous distribution of nanoparticles (Figure 4). In these conditions, the photocrosslinking of the methacrylic matrix took place simultaneously with the photochemical reduction of Ag + , Au 3+ or Pd 2+ to metallic Ag 0 , Au 0 or Pd 0 nanoparticles, processes triggered by the photolysis of Irgacure 819 initiator under UV irradiation [22,29,37]. In the achieving of hybrid nanocomposites, an important role is granted to the polymer matrix composed mainly of bio-based castor oil derivative (CO-UDMA-Si) which together with the polypropylene urethane dimethacrylate (PPO-UDMA) allows the formation of homogeneous, flexible and transparent films in which the inorganic nanoparticles can be easily incorporated.…”
