Photochemically Catalysed Polymerisation of 3-Trimethoxysilylpropyl Methacrylate Containing Silver, Copper and Zinc Ions

Abstract: Photo curable organic-inorganic monomers are currently generating much interest in many research groups worldwide due to their unique properties leading to a wide range of applications including electronics, energetics, medicine, etc. One of them, 3-trimethoxysilylpropylmethacrylate belongs to the class of such monomers having a wide range of relatively good mechanical, chemical and physical properties. Moreover, this monomer can be cured by different processes including heat treatment and light. Photochemical… Show more

“…This basic polymer can be modified by suitable addition of other raw materials into an initial solution on the hydrophobic nanolayers (i.e., by adding hexadecyltrimethoxysilane with functional hexadecyl group) or by adding cations of suitable metals (silver-Ag, copper-Cu, and zinc -Zn) on antimicrobial (and also antiviral and fungicide) nanolayers. Preparation and properties of these nanolayers have been published [66][67][68][69][70][71] and also patented [72][73][74].…”

“…Further, these AAO films allow further modifications by incorporation of various metals, and especially silver. 27,28 The catalytic properties, inherent for silver and its apparent chemical resistivity have opened another main field of intensive research activities on efficient and durable catalytic silver films, [29][30][31][32][33][34][35] and especially Ag/Al 2 O 3 conjunctions. 36,37 These properties are successfully applied for the environmental protection by contaminant gas reduction.…”
