Photobiomodulation therapy in ophthalmology

Abstract

SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine"; Odesa (Ukraine) Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is a form of light therapy that utilizes non-ionizing forms of light sources in the far-red to near-infrared spectrum to produce non-thermal photochemical reactions in different biological structures. The paper reviews the experience of implementing (a) PBM in different fields of medicine (e.g., ophthalmology) and (b) the known mechanisms of PBM-induced effects on cells and tissues.
