Photo‐induced graft copolymerization, I. Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto silk in presence of lutidine‐bromine charge transfer complex

Abstract: Photo‐induced graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto silk was investigated by using Lutidine‐Bromine (Lu‐Br2) charge transfer complex as initiator. The graft yield increased with increasing monomer concentration at the initial stages and thereafter it decreased. The graft yield increased steadily with the increase of the initiator concentration. The initiator exponent was computed to be 0.5. The reaction was carried out at three different temperatures and the overall activation energy was computed.… Show more

“…With a steady‐state assumption, the following expressions [eqs. (1) and (2)] were derived for R p :11 The values of R p evaluated for various monomer (MA) and photoinitiator (CAN) concentrations, for the photografting of MA onto Na‐PCMGG (DS = 0.291), are given in Tables I and II, respectively.…”
