Phosphorus Removal From Aqueous Solution By Adsorption Onto La-modified Clinoptilolite

Abstract: Abstract.A La-modified clinoptilolite adsorbent was developed for phosphorus removal from aqueous solution. The effects of operational parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time and temperature on phosphorus adsorption were investigated. The results showed that the phosphorus removal ratio of modified clinoptilolite (99.45%) was significantly improved, which was over triple than that of natural ones (31.50%) under optimum conditions. The adsorption process was well described by the pseudo-second-ord… Show more

“…Strong adsorption peak seen at around 150/cm was ascribed to P-O asymmetric tension vibration peak on adsorbent after phosphate adsorption [22]. Similar to the study of Tu et al [22], it was seen that PO 4 -3 adsorbed on Na-MPN after adsorption for Na-MPN. On the other hand, O-H vibration peak observed at around 3,320/cm wavelength for Na-MPN was not seen after the adsorption.…”

“…Phosphate adsorption experiments of this study were conducted by evenly mingling 0.5 g·L −1 of the La-chitosan magnetic spheres with 100 mL of a K 2 HPO 4 solution at 100 rpm and 25 • C. In addition, similar conditions have been also taken in kinetic experiments. The residual phosphate concentration of solution was determined accurately by a UV-VIS spectrophotometer (DR6000, HACH, Loveland, CO, USA) by the aid of the ammonium molybdate spectrophotometric method after filtration [17]. Then the q e (mg P·g −1 ) of phosphate were calculated as following Equation (1):…”

“…In recent years, the rare earth element lanthanum (La) and its derivatives have been proven to be important candidates for phosphorus removal due to their eco-friendliness, abundant sources, relatively low cost, and multipoint coordination ability. 10,11 For example, Sowmya et al 12 synthesized three polymeric materials loaded with La(III) exhibiting high phosphate adsorption capacities of 155.4 mg g À1 . Discarded lignocellulose biochar doped with La displayed a high phosphate adsorption capacity of 36.06 mg g À1 , good pH compatibility, good selectivity for phosphate, and excellent reusability due to ligand exchange, electrostatic attraction, and complexation.…”
