“…pH had also an important secondary effect on P release from the lake sediment, if iron (II) and orthophosphate was released from an anaerobic sediment surface and mixed into aerobic lake water at high pH, only part of the released P was bound to the re-precipitated iron (III) compounds (Bostrom, 1988). Meanwhile, the alkaline condition facilitated the competitive adsorption of OH − and some anions, and OH − may exchange with phosphate in the Fe-P and A1-P complex, thus increased the desorption process of phosphate, subsequently resulting in a great amount of P liberation from positive adsorption sites (Jin et al, 2006); (2) orthophosphate in the water existed as HPO 4 2− and H 2 PO 4 − in the neutral condition, easy to combine with metal ions and adsorbed on sediment, thus reduced the release amount; (3) the acidic condition increased the solubility of adsorbed sedimentary phosphorus, especially affected the desorption of Ca-P from sediment.…”

“…pH in the overlying water and sediment was a predominant factor as it affected desorption-adsorption, precipitationsolubilization and oxidation-reduction reactions through its control over the concentrations of available iron, aluminum, and calcium, thus directly or indirectly changing the aquatic, biological and chemical reactions (Jin et al, 2006). In ordinary conditions, sediment pH in lakes between 6.5 and 8.5.…”

“…Various physicochemical factors, biotic effects and hydro-meteorological characteristics have been assumed to be main reasons for cyanobacterial blooms (Paerl et al, 2001;Jin and Wang, 2006;Jiang et al, 2008;Goleski et al, 2010;Wang et al, 2011a). Many models have been developed to predict the dynamics of cyanobacterial blooms.…”
