Phospholipids of six seed oils of malvaceae

Abstract: The phospholipid fractions of six seed oils of the Malvaceae family—Gossypium barbadense (Egyptian cotton),Hibiscus cannabinus (kenaf),Hibiscus sabdarifa (roselle), two varieties ofHibiscus esculentus (okra) andAlthea rosea (ketmia, hollyhock or Egyptian hemp)—have been isolated by silicic acid chromatography. Thin‐layer chromatography of these phospholipid fractions revealed that the common phosphatides were cephalins, lecithin (phosphatidylcholine) and some of their lysoforms. There were also some nonpolar c… Show more

“…Numerous phytochemical compounds having positive pharmacological properties and nutritional health benefits have been reported in kenaf seed oil. The seed oil is mainly comprised of high amount of fatty acids, sterols, phospholipids and other nutritional factors (Hopkins and Chisholm, 1959;Subbaram et al, 1964;Tolibave et al, 1976aTolibave et al, ,b, 1975Fiad, 1991b;Mohamed et al, 1995;Wang et al, 2012). Researchers from different countries showed a number of important fatty acids like palmitic, oleic, and linoleic acids as major fatty acids in kenaf seed oil Chisholm, 1959, 1960;Subbaram et al, 1964;Lakshminarayana et al, 1984;Tolibave et al, 1986a;Singh and Goswami, 1996;Mohamed et al, 1995).…”
