Abstract:Pancreatic islets from normal C57BL/KsJ-+/ + -mice and diabetic C57BL/KsJ-db/db-mice were collagenase-isolated and incubated with 33P-labelled inorganic phosphate. No significant difference was observed in phosphate uptake between normal and diabetic mouse islets whether the animals were young (6\p=n-\8weeks) or old (27 \ m=+-\ 9 weeks). When 33P-labelled islets were perifused with non-radioactive medium, all types of islets exhibited a brisk and transient peak of phosphate release in response to a change of g… Show more
A cell-specific response may be induced at several steps of beta-cell stimulus-secretion coupling. Mitochondrial metabolism generates a cell-specific response in normal beta cells but not in db/db and ob/ob mouse beta cells.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
